  • February 2013: SJTP&A congratulates one of the firm’s founding members, attorney Gil Johnson, for more than 50 years of service and professionalism in the practice of law. After serving as a Lake County assistant state’s attorney, Gil joined the firm as a partner with John Soffietti in 1965. Gil is scheduled to be honored for 50 years in the practice of law by the Lake County Bar Association on Feb. 22, 2013, at the President’s Award Dinner at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL.
  • Jan. 21, 2013: SJTP&A is pleased to announce that attorney David J. Bawcum, has been named a junior partner by the firm’s managing partners. Mr. Bawcum, who has been with the firm since May 2006, manages the firm’s workers’ compensation practice and is a member of the firm’s personal injury, bankruptcy and commercial litigation teams.
  • SJTP&A attorneys settled a confidential multimillion-dollar wrongful death case on behalf of the widow of a 67-year-old man killed in a United Airlines crash in Sioux City, Iowa.
  • SJTP&A celebrates its 53rd year as village attorneys and prosecutors for the village of Fox Lake. The firm was appointed by the village in 1956. Managing partner Howard R. Teegen is the village attorney.
  • SJTP&A attorneys settled a wrongful death action in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, for $2.86 million on behalf the estate of a North Chicago man killed while riding in a vehicle that was struck in congested traffic on the Interstate 94 Edens Spur by a tractor-trailer whose brakes were defective.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action for $650,000 on behalf of a 16-year-old minor who was struck by a vehicle while walking on a public street in Fox Lake, Illinois.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 38-year-old man for $575,000 for injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Waukegan, Illinois.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 28-year-old woman for $290,000 for injuries she suffered in a slip-and-fall at a restaurant in Wauconda, Illinois.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 49-year-old woman for $250,000 for injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Gurnee, Illinois.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 39-year-old man for $200,000 for injuries suffered in a construction site accident in Chicago, Illinois.

  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 63-year-old woman for $150,000 for injuries she suffered in a slip-and-fall at the Gurnee Mills Shopping Center.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a 57-year-old man and his wife for $165,000 for injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Round Lake, Illinois.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action on behalf of a Round Lake man for the applicable policy limits $100,000 after the man was hit by a vehicle from behind while he was performing landscaping work on a sidewalk in the village of Glenview, Illinois, resulting in a right ACL tear and fibular fracture.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action for $75,000 on behalf of an Arlington Heights man who was hit by a vehicle while working construction on a city intersection, resulting in the client suffering a right acetabular fracture.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury action for $75,000 on behalf of a Chicago man who was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in an intersection collision, resulting in a collapsed lung and multiple fractured ribs.
  • SJTP&A recently reached a confidential settlement with an Illinois school district on behalf of the family of a minor female student at the school. It was alleged that the school district failed to follow the proper safety precautions and protections necessary to prevent the minor female student from being sexually assaulted during school hours.
  • SJTP&A settled a workers’ compensation death claim on behalf of the family of a Fox Lake, Illinois, man who died after overdosing on narcotic medication prescribed to treat his work-related lower back injury.
  • Feb. 22, 2010: Former partner and SJTP&A alum Christopher B. Morozin was named an associate judge for the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois.   • May ’09: SJTP&A celebrates its 26th and 28th years as the respective village attorneys and prosecutors for the villages of Fox Lake and Lindenhurst. The firm was first appointed by the village of Lindenhurst in May 1981. The firm’s managing partner, Howard R. Teegen, is the village attorney for Lindenhurst.
  • May ’09: SJTP&A celebrates its 26th year as the village attorneys and prosecutors for the village of Fox Lake. The firm was first appointed by the village in May 1983. Firm associate Jeffery Nutsching is the village’s head prosecutor.
  • SJTP&A settled a personal injury suit for $1.25 million on behalf of a 72-year-old male motorcyclist hit by a car, injuring his head, neck and back.
  • SJTP&A settled in a pre-suit mediation a Wisconsin wrongful death lawsuit for $500,000 on behalf of the estate of a minor girl who died while in the care of a state boarding school. The settlement, in light of the case’s potential medical malpractice liability component, was the maximum amount recoverable as a consequence of the state of Wisconsin’s statutory monetary limits for such medical malpractice suits.
  • Jan. 1, 2009: SJTP&A is pleased to announce that junior partner Julio C. Argueta has been named a full equity partner by the firm’s managing partners. Mr. Argueta, who has been with the firm since 2003 and as a junior partner since 2005, manages the firm’s criminal defense team and its Waukegan office.
  • SJTP&A attorneys filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of the estate of a North Chicago man who died while riding in a vehicle that was rear-ended and crushed by a tractor-trailer.
  • 2008: SJTP& A partner and alum the Honorable Jorge Ortiz has been elevated by the Illinois Supreme Court to circuit judge for the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois. Judge Ortiz, appointed in 2002, is the Circuit Court of Lake County’s first appointed Latino judge. http://judgeortiz.com/
