Preparing For Our First Meeting: A Checklist
Our lawyers have prepared a checklist for you to bring to our first meeting. It should give you some guidance as to what information we will be looking for, as well as some of the questions we may ask:
- Name, age and birth date
- Social Security number
- Address and length of residence
- Checking and savings account balances
- Stocks, bonds, etc.
- Gross pay last year
- Year-to-date income (all sources)
- Retirement plans
- Health insurance carriers
- Life insurance
- Doctor’s name
- Date of marriage
- Children’s names, birth dates and Social Security numbers
- Information about your home and mortgage
- Cars you drive
- Cars your spouse drives
- Other vehicles, such as motorcycles or boats
- Debts, including creditor’s name and how much owed
- Inventory of personal property and furniture
This list may look overwhelming, but coming up with a plan and an agreement that becomes legal is our goal. Every family member will know what to expect and the plan can even be upheld through the enforcement of the court if needed.
